We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work with an interdisciplinary team on an innovative study that contributes research outputs and conceptual support to projects related to climate change and community vulnerability. This postdoc is part of the Ocean Modeling Forum Climate and Communities Working Group (oceanmodelingforum.org). In collaboration with the PIs and graduate students, the postdoc will support the development of the evidence base to ensure sustainability in US West Coast Fisheries.
This position will be an initial 18-month appointment with a possible extension, pending funding. The position will be co-supervised by Drs. Phil Levin (UW School of Environmental and Forest Sciences and School of Marine and Environmental Affairs, and The Nature Conservancy) and Kristin Marshall (NOAA Northwest Fisheries Science Center). The postdoc will work with Marshall and Levin to develop quantitative models that link bio-physical and social systems to investigate scenarios developed by fisheries managers and others about future climate and socio-economic conditions. The project requires ensuring consistency with established methodological approaches and models, adherence to project timelines, and completeness of documentation. The postdoc will conduct studies of related literature and research to support the design and implementation of models, projects, and reports, ensuring conceptual relevance, comprehensiveness, and currency of information. Postdoctoral scholars are expected to write and publish articles in peer-reviewed journals that highlight findings from research activities ensuring consistency with the highest standards of academic publication. The successful candidate will develop collaborative links with core personnel in related program areas to gain exposure to, and build knowledge on research activities and approaches, in order to improve conceptual development and implementation of existing programs and make progress towards project objectives. The postdoc will also contribute to the writing of grant proposals, as appropriate. Telework permitted. Anticipated start date is June 25, but negotiable.

Candidates must hold a PhD or foreign equivalent, and have no more than 3.5 years of total postdoctoral experience at the time of appointment. The successful candidate for this position will have expertise and experience synthesizing, interpreting, and communicating scientific information; demonstrated experience with quantitative techniques, ecosystem models, network analysis and/or end-to-end models; a record of publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and experience as a science communicator with the ability to relate scientific concepts to a variety of audiences. Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated. Knowledge of key fisheries conservation issues and partners working along the US West Coast is preferred. Experience working in interdisciplinary scientific teams is desired.
