The Executive Director is the key management leader of the Leadership Alliance. This position will have primary responsibility for the overall strategic direction of the consortium, operations, community outreach and administration of the Executive Office and governance committees. This position will serve as ex officio member of the External Advisory Board and the Executive and Program Advisory Committees. Working with the Board and these committees, the members of the consortium and the Executive Office staff, the executive director will provide direction and leadership toward the achievement of the organization's mission and annual goals and objectives.
Financial Performance and Sustainability
Identifies resource requirements, researches funding sources, establishes strategies to approach funders, submits proposals and maintains fundraising records. This includes working with the Office of Financial Strategy and Planning to ensure the fiscal integrity of biannual budget reports for submission to the Board and consortium members that accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.Â
Develop and submit federal and non-federal proposals to support Alliance programs and infrastructure in collaboration with Associate Director.
Develop a financial strategy that ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.
Develops and engages in fundraising campaigns, in collaboration with the Office of Advancement, to ensure the financial sustainability of the organization.Â
Builds the financial foundation to support the implementation and operations of regional networks.
Initiates fundraising activities to support programming and expansion within regional networks.
Organization Mission and Strategy
Works with the Executive Office Staff, External Advisory Board, Institutional Coordinators, members of the consortium and the Executive and Program Advisory Committees to develop the strategic direction of the organization to ensure that the Leadership Alliance can successfully fulfill its mission.
Builds collaborative relationships by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic and private organizations.
Delivers effective leadership and vision resulting in a unified purpose among the consortium membership and contributes to the strategic expansion of the organization.
Works in concert with the External Advisory Board and governance committees to support and guide the organizationâ™s mission.
Assures effective communications with the Board and committees by providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board and committees to function properly and to make informed decisions.
Supervises staff in the development of materials for biannual Board and business meetings. Assures all meetings yield actionable items that are accomplished in a timely manner.
Organization Programming and Operations
Oversees design, marketing, promotion, delivery and quality of programs, and products.
Assures the organization and its mission, programs, products and services are consistently presented in strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders.
Builds and manages relationships with faculty, Provosts and organizational leadership in order to facilitate engagement and programmatic success.
Serves as spokesperson and provides tone setting addresses for keystone events.
Manages the hiring and retention of staff.
Oversees professional goal setting and supports the professional development of staff.
Builds foundational relationships with Brown leadership in order to broaden participation in The Leadership Alliance programming within the Brown University community.
Participates in recruitment events, disseminates information and gathers feedback from partners in both in person and virtual settings.
An earned Ph.D. or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated record of administrative experience or academic achievement that provides a foundation from which to lead, inspire, persuade others in influential positions to join the Alliance in achieving its goals.
Leadership experience in strategic and financial planning.
Track record in developing, implementing and evaluating programs and in grantsmanship and fundraising activities.
Strong public relations experience.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.
Demonstrates resolve and diplomacy; ability to manage competing priorities and multiple stakeholders internal and external to the consortium.
Demonstrates an intimate knowledge of organizational values and serves as an ambassador in order to promote the values of The Leadership Alliance in day to day operations as well as in dealings with stakeholders internal and external to the organization.
Experience building organizational culture and has knowledge of organizational behavior.
Must possess a willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community.Â
