Develop deep knowledge of the social science external funding landscape, build personal links to the external program officers who oversee major social science funding opportunities in U.S. and foreign governments, multi-lateral funding agencies, foundations, and corporate sectors and provide strategic support to centers in pursuing specific funding opportunities. * Develop of a comprehensive understanding of Yale's social science faculty research records, grant records, future research plans and funding needs. * Work closely with center leadership to develop strategies to identify and cultivate funding and project development opportunities in the social sciences and in multi-disciplinary areas that have the social science at the core. * Develop partnerships with policy and research stakeholders; build and maintain productive relationships with current and potential funders; and effectively represent research centers and faculty researchers at relevant conferences and in meetings with senior policy partners and donors. * In partnership with faculty and center leadership, develop and pursue specific funding and project development leads. * Provide stewardship and reporting to major donors and other stakeholders. * Communicate success stories in winning grants and producing outstanding research from external funding through aligning a communications strategy across centers and providing strategic, integrated marketing communication solutions in support of fundraising objectives and developing content strategy and overseeing/guiding development of communications materials that support fundraising, including donor profiles, fundraising proposals and stories about impact. * Create a strategic plan for external outreach and manage external communications. * Develop and implement content strategy, media and materials for fundraising (i.e. draft briefings and proposals for donors and donor meetings). * Provide strategic communications guidance to faculty and center leadership on high-priority messages, speeches, papers, etc. * Conceptualize and manage strategic fundraising or partnership-development events. * Develop processes and standards to effectively monitor and analyze external funding efforts. * Provide actionable analysis on the effectiveness of fundraising and communications strategy and efforts. * Provide regular quantitative reports to center Directors on progress toward key external funding and communications objectives with lessons learned and creative, concrete suggestions for improvement. * Connect social science faculty to Yale internal expertise and support units, including OSP, OGC, YCRC, FRMS, etc., and build partnerships with existing units for efficient deployment of Yale's resources and efficient application for, and compliance related to, external funding. * Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Education: PhD in social science preferred. Substantial experience with the process of seeking and obtaining external funding for academic research, such as through working with foundation/government agencies.
