The Senior Communications Strategist will contribute to the Strategic Communications team within the Division of Communications at Vanderbilt University. The senior strategist will bring strategic leadership to Vanderbilt University's outreach to alumni, parents, partners and donors. The position will be responsible for managing relationships with Development and Alumni Relations to plan and implement communications plans, tactics and reporting. This includes managing relationships to prioritize goals, develop integrated communications plans, messaging and reporting, and manage tactics and timelines for execution. Reporting to the Communications Strategy Director in the Division of Communications, the Senior Communications Strategist will partner with key DAR project managers across each of Vanderbilt's 10 schools, Athletics and Planned Giving to lead informed communications campaigns. Strong candidates will have measured experience with creating and executing fundraising marketing and communications plans, A/B testing and reporting, guiding projects from start to finish within a team and knowledge of leveraging events, direct mail, social media, Salesforce CRM and personalization tools, and content for engagement and giving solicitation purposes. The Division of Communications is based in Nashville, TN and currently working virtually. This role is expected to reside in Nashville or relocate within the first 3-6 months of employment.
The Strategic Communications team within the Division of Communications designs and executes integrated communications strategies to protect and enhance Vanderbilt's reputation among the Vanderbilt community and local, national and international audiences.
Duties and Responsibilities
Engage with DAR staff to establish goal-oriented communications campaigns and projects targeting potential donors, alumni, community partners and parents.
Project manage and analyze campaign/channel performance, provide insights and make recommendations to DAR leadership on best practices in giving marketing and communications.
Collaborate with Communications leads in design, email marketing, editorial strategy, social media, visual media and others to manage campaigns and development projects that maximize engagement and conversion.
Advise and maintain website content for key development sites across the schools and Athletics.
Participate in ongoing training to ensure communications is optimizing engagement through the use of cutting-edge tools.
Stay current on issues in higher education that are related to alumni engagement, development and communications.
Demonstrate fluency with fundraising, alumni relations and project management best practices.
Provide overall support as needed and assigned for department priorities.
Communicate and collaborate effectively with a wide range of audiences--including development officers, school leadership, staff, alumni, vendors and agencies.
Efficiently and effectively manage multiple, complex and results-oriented projects with quick turn-around requirements.
Adhere to confidentiality and business ethics; demonstrate outstanding judgment and discretion.

A bachelor's degree is necessary .
A degree in communications, marketing, marketing analytics or related field is preferred .
At least 5 years of experience in communications project management, marketing communications or related field is necessary.
Evidence of strategic planning, interpersonal, presentation and marketing skills is necessary .
Experience working in fundraising communications is necessary.
Demonstrated proficiency in using content management systems, communication analytics and social networking tools in communications or marketing programs is preferred .
Experience with Salesforce marketing tools is preferred.
