Summary of Duties:
The Scientific Laboratory Manager serves as a supervisor for the Avian Health and Food Safety Laboratory (AHFSL), a branch lab of the Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory. Direct, control and coordinate sample flow through the laboratory including providing support services to clients submitting samples to WADDL-AHFSL. Direct, control and coordinate efforts of personnel assigned to the lab and, when necessary, assist in laboratory analyses. In conjunction with the Branch Chief, responsible for short and long term operations and budget planning, and is responsible for all laboratory policies including Quality Assurance/Quality Control. Participates and assists with the development and maintenance of testing, information and reporting systems. Supervises laboratory and office staff members. Provides assistance to and represents the faculty member in charge of the lab, as required. Eligibility and understanding of BSL-2 laboratory safety guidelines and work environment is required.
A Bachelor's degree in an appropriate related scientific discipline and four (4) years of progressively responsible professional experience which has included at least two (2) years of supervisory experience.
Ability to work overtime and rotate on weekend duty/holidays as scheduled.
Experience using VADDS or similar laboratory information management or electronic medical record system.
Interest in continuing education in the field of food safety and avian animal health.
Monthly Salary: Commensurate with qualification and experience. FTE: 100% Permanent/Temporary: Permanent
