The Math + Physics Fellow position addresses the need for personalized instruction and holistic support programs in quantitative reasoning across the curriculum, especially for students in underrepresented groups. The person in this position co-directs daily operations in the Tutoring Center including recruiting, mentoring, and training student and professional tutors; drafting and implementing policies and procedures; and collecting and analyzing assessment data. This position is also responsible for designing academic support initiatives to increase success for students in underrepresented groups in collaboration with faculty. While the position does include administrative responsibilities, it is focused on teaching and learning—including tutoring students, creating learning resources, teaching workshops, and leading review sessions. The Math + Physics Fellow has a special focus on supporting math and physics courses, but is also responsible for coordinating academic support in chemistry, accounting, computer science, and engineering.
Master's degree in math, physics, engineering, or a related field AND prior experience tutoring in a higher education setting
Experience working with students with disabilities
Experience working with English language learners
Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, religious, gender identity, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of college students, staff, and faculty
Strong oral and written communication skills
Prior administrative experience in an academic support center
Familiarity with research methodologies in education
Successful college classroom teaching experience
. Ability to tutor introductory courses in multiple STEM disciplines
