Alumni Aﬀairs and Development (AA&D) comprises the University Development Oﬃce (UDO), Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) Development, AA&D Resources, and the Harvard Alumni Association (HAA). There is a unique relationship between the University and the FAS fundraising operations, resulting from a long history in which University fundraising ultimately grew out of College fundraising.
Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) Development FAS Development is responsible for the fundraising eﬀorts supporting the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, including Harvard College, the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. FAS Development staﬀ work with Harvard College donors, alumni, parents, and friends who provide critical support for the FAS and often for other parts of the University.
The person in this full-time position researches, organizes, and writes compelling gift proposals, fundraising materials, and marketing materials for top priorities of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS). This position sits within the Academic and Development Coordination (ADC) team, part of FAS Development Communications. Under the direction of the Senior Associate Director, Academic and Development Coordination, they provide writing support to content leads in the department and coordinate content for multi-area proposals. They provide research support for the development of proposals and content papers in conjunction with ADC team members and others within FAS Development. The person in this position maintains, researches, and updates data points for the FAS needed for fundraising and communications efforts throughout the FAS development organizations. Develops and maintains positive working relationships with FAS academic and administrative offices, and FAS development colleagues. The position requires a high level of organization, professionalism, and discretion. Must be a strong and experienced writer.
Researches and drafts compelling and accurate gift proposals and terms for fundraising officers to present to prospective donors, working with other members of the ADC team.
Under the direction of the Senior Associate Director, Academic and Development Coordination, acts as a liaison between the Development Office and administrative and academic offices in the FAS.
Working with other team members, researches and drafts training materials for fundraisers for gift priorities, and assists with training coordination on fundraising priorities and gift opportunities.
Is proactive in procuring information and producing documents that could assist fundraising officers in the field.
Serves as primary resource for ADC team and other FAS development departments in researching and maintaining data on the FAS to be used in proposals and other communications and marketing materials.
Provides research support for ADC team for proposals and concept papers on the FAS priorities.
Attends required FAS and Major Gifts training sessions, meetings, and events. Attends other training sessions, conferences, and workshops as necessary.
Works on special projects as assigned, including coordination of ad-hoc committees and responsibility for evaluative projects.

Bachelor's degree preferred. A minimum of three to five years of work experience, preferably in an academic setting. Must be a strong and experienced writer.
Marketing, communications, and/or fundraising background is highly desirable. Knowledge of academics a plus.
Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, and an ability to establish and promote good working relationships with alumni, colleagues, faculty, and administrators. Excellent speaking, writing, editing, proofreading, research, and client-service skills required.
Must be highly organized and detail oriented. Must be able to prioritize well and handle multiple and disparate projects at once.
