The Jackson lab is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Computational Biologist. This individual will be mentored by Dr. Ruaidhri Jackson, an expert in mucosal immunology. The Jackson lab uses cutting edge techniques, including next-generation ribosome profiling technology, RNAseq, scRNAseq, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, and preclinical mouse models of disease to improve our understanding of innate and mucosal immunity. The individual will have the opportunity to participate in the analysis of both mouse and human genomic datasets, identifying novel targets and pathways for the treatment of inflammatory disease. The individual will have the opportunity to work closely with a team of experimental biologists to interpret and validate findings. The individual will join a new lab conducting cutting edge genome investigatory experiments and work closely with our lab's bioinformatic collaborators and the Harvard Chan Bioinformatic Core. Job responsibilities include: -Employ computational and statistical tools for the analysis and interpretation of multi-modal genomic data, including bulk and single-cell RNA analyses. -Work closely with experimental biologists to interpret and validate exciting findings and teach lab members basic bioinformatic pipelines. -Develop novel algorithms to analyze genomic, transcriptional, and screening data sets. -Explore novel data visualization tools, with emphasis on integrating diverse data types -Share results and algorithms with collaborators and the global cancer and immunology research communities. -Prepare high-quality publications and oral presentations.
This is a one-year term position with possibility of extension, contingent on work performance and continued funding for the position.

Masters degree in biological sciences or a related field required. 5+ years experience in a related area using next-gen RNAseq analysis
Background knowledge in computational biology preferred, but most important are strong computational and quantitative skills. Strong programming skills and experience in algorithm development (using Python, R, Matlab, etc.). Coursework in Statistics, excellent oral and written English communication skills. Ability to solve complex problems. Major preference for background in ribosome profiling and mRNA splicing. Preference for experience with Illumina, Oxford Nanopore, PacBio sequencing platforms.
