Community Health Education Specialist-Cancer Prevention in Action Project - 2101651
Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume): Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in health education or health promotion or a related field. Three (3) years of full-time experience in community health education. Experience with Microsoft Office and/or Google Docs.
Preferred Qualifications: Bilingual English/Spanish. Additional years (4+) of full-time experience in community health education. Experience in Cancer Prevention. Certification: Certified Health Education specialists with certification from the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc.
Brief Description of Duties: The Health Education Specialist - Cancer Prevention in Action Project, will use a community level policy, systems and environmental change (PSE) approach with organizations and municipalities to work on projects that encourage healthier lifestyles by promoting and educating about UV awareness, sun exposure, HPV awareness and HPV vaccination with the goal to provide people with tools that allow them to avoid developing skin and HPV related cancers. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills; writing and problem solving skills, skills in cultural competency, advocacy, public relations, public health policy, including analysis, development and implementation, community outreach & mobilization, health communications & counter marketing, strategic use of media, including media advocacy, earned and paid media, strategic planning , gathering data and evaluations methods. Using all skills to interpret work plans which convert a community's needs into comprehensive community educational programs.
Provide health and wellness education related to UV awareness, sun exposure, HPV awareness and vaccination and their benefits to prevent cancer by:
Planning, developing and implementing Cancer in Prevention in Action programs specifically designed to address the needs of the community and its members.
Evaluate, design, present, provide, consult with physicians and staff, recommend and disseminate culturally appropriate health education information and materials, incorporating the PSE change approach and present all information effectively to diverse audiences.
Facilitate classes and maintain logs for all Cancer Prevention in Action programs.
Perform intakes on new and re-enrolling adults in Cancer Prevention in Action programs.
Other duties as assigned.
