The Senior Accountant supports the financial accounting activities of a growing and rapidly changing college. The college is combining two campuses into one, becoming residential with dining, and recently implemented Workday financial and student modules. In addition, the college is growing its non-degree programs and summer programs, and it has undertaken a multitude of academic initiatives. All of these new activities require the support of a collaborative, creative individual who enjoys working with business partners to solve new financial challenges. The individual will be responsible for complex accounting activities including federal financial aid, fixed assets, project, and plant fund accounting. This position reports to the Director of Accounting. This individual will also partner and work closely with other Business Service Office managers.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Processes, Development and Communication - 30%

• Responsible for maintaining and upholding existing financial processes, policies and procedures with specific emphasis on fixed assets accounting policies.
  
• Supervision and development of the Staff Accountant.
  
• Banking processes including but not limited to: initiate wire transfers, respond to positive pay exceptions, and review and approve Workday ad hoc bank transactions.
  
• Coordinate with Business Service Office managers to identify opportunities to improve services and processes.
  

• Build relationships with colleagues across multiple service lines to provide seamless integrated service.
  

Reconciliation and Reporting - 30%

• Financial Aid Reconciliations: reconcile financial aid award receipts and disbursements on a monthly basis. Submit reports to Federal Aid agencies. Work with the Financial Aid team for the annual Single Audit.
  
• Responsible for developing and maintaining various reports prepared by the Business Office. Oversee and facilitate timely completion and review of all reconciliations and analyses produced by the Staff Accountant.
  
• Gather information and prepare various financial reports including but not limited to: regulatory reports, quarterly accruals, interim and year-end audit schedules and reports.
  
• Work as a team member on the annual close process, audit schedule preparation and 990 filing.
  

Complex Accounting Functions - 30%

• Be the lead on Lease accounting implementation.
  
• Project and grant fund accounting: be the financial lead on the implementation of Workday project and grant fund accounting. Coordinate with Operations, Programs and Advancement to ensure ongoing and future project/grant accounting requirements are being met.
  
• Plant Fund Accounting: review asset purchases to determine capitalization is in accordance with CCA policy. Record fixed asset purchases, disposals, and depreciation. Prepare amortization schedules for leased equipment and record entries. Calculate long-term/short-term debt and record necessary adjustments. Prepare debt commitment schedule, deferred rent schedule, and annual reports for regulatory reporting and financial surveys. Prepare and file property tax exemptions and returns.
  

Other Duties As Assigned - 10%

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's Degree and at least five years experience in accounting required
  
• Prior experience with fund accounting in a higher education or other not-for-profit institution strongly preferred.
  
• Experience with ERP systems and Microsoft Office suite; prior experience with Workday highly desired.
  
• Highly competent self-directed individual with the ability to work independently
  
• Demonstrates enthusiasm about work; takes initiative to get things done
  
• Strong technical writing skills
  
• Ability to build relationships with internal business partners. Assess and challenge existing practices; recommend and implement process improvements.
  
• Detail-oriented, with strong organizational and time management skills
  
• Results-oriented/delivery focused; ability to deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines
  

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

• The range for the position is $90,000 - $95,000 annually.
  
• CCA offers a comprehensive benefits package, including the choice of five medical plans, generous holiday, sick & vacation time, a retirement match and tuition remission. CCA covers an average of 91% of the medical plan cost for the employee only and an average of 82% for employees with dependents. WORK SCHEDULE:

• CCA considers a full-time work week to be 37.5 hours per week.
