In collaboration with students, colleagues, and the Director for Student Belonging & Inclusion, the Coordinator of Student Belonging & Inclusion will strive to cultivate an inclusive campus experience that facilitates student engagement, social inclusion, intellectual curiosity, and personal exploration. CCA is seeking an individual that can collaborate and educate to serve as the Coordinator. This role is responsible for supporting the mission, values, and goals of the Office for Student Belonging & Inclusion to support an inclusive, vibrant campus experience for all CCA students. We seek an energetic, visible, student-focused individual with strong commitment to supporting our highly-motivated, creative, and talented student body. This individual will model an atmosphere of respect, caring, collective engagement, inclusive excellence, accountability, and personal growth in a rigorous and vibrant student community. Additionally, the candidate will have demonstrated ability to work within a globally and culturally diverse college community.

Through the intentional use of student development theory, cultural identity development theory, and leadership theory the Coordinator will work to enhance a growing sense of community, inclusion, and belonging through the creation of activities and programs focused on personal growth. This position will ensure that student belonging and inclusion at the California College of the Arts is designed and nurtured through a lens of equity and inclusion attracting all CCA students' engagement in campus life.

The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues across campus and within the Division of Student Affairs to ensure that students develop and sustain a strong sense of belonging and inclusion, particularly BIPOC students, women, LGBTQ+ students, First-Generation Students, and other underrepresented populations.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Campus & Community Involvement - 30%

• In collaboration with the Director, implements the vision, mission, and goals of the office. Ultimately translating the mission into action within the student community through educational and developmental programing structures.
  
• Assists with creating an inclusive and welcoming physical space dedicated to BIPOC students.
  
• Partners with the Dean of Students Office, Student Life, International Student Affairs, & Residential Education to integrate diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging efforts across campus.
  
• Sits on the Orientation Planning Committee and the Chimera Welcome & Belonging Week Committee
  
• Develops and organizes community response to incidents of hate or discrimination of marginalized groups (incident-specific programming) through the development of a bias incident response group.
  
• Remains professionally current with knowledge and practice; affiliate with appropriate professional organizations; attend and present at regional and national professional conferences
  
• Monitors national trends in promoting the success of diverse students and help to educate the division and campus on the changing needs related to race, ethnicity, religion, national origin, gender, LGBTQ+ students, and assess the impact of departmental programs as a result.
  
• Maintains high visibility and engagement with the student body and campus community at College events.
  
• Performs other duties as assigned
  

Student Programing, Advocacy, & Belonging - 70%

• Assists with the implementation of New Student Orientation & Family Programs, which may include organizing events.
  
• Assists with Chimera Welcome Week focusing on ensuring that CCA students feel seen and that they belong in the CCA Community from day one, by creating events, programs and staffing the student space
  
• Supervises the student work-study staff including welcome week leaders & academic year work-study staff.
  
• Exhibits an understanding of the current best practices in student affairs and an awareness of emerging issues in higher education, including social justice, cultural competency, retention and persistence, at-risk student factors, community building, and student learning.
  
• Collaborates with ISAP to foster positive relations between domestic and international students.
  
• Supports implementation of Student Life's and Residential Education's diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  
• Educates constituents (internal) on the value of an inclusive and engaged campus.
  
• Supports in the development of cultural competency training efforts for Student Affairs staff, student leaders, student organization advisors and new students (specifically implicit bias and microaggressions).
  
• Builds relationships with and supports students with marginalized identities by providing one-on-one support, assistance, and advocacy.
  
• Assists with identity based commencement ceremonies such as Multicultural Commencement and the Lavender Ceremony.
  
• Implements the co-curricular components of the CANVAS (CCA's Artist's Network Valuing Aspiring Scholars) Program and works to help ensure support and retention of the CANVAS students.
  
• Create, design, and implement Cultural and Affinity Group-Based Programming: programming and opportunities for coalition building for key events throughout the academic year.
  
• Implement Retention Centered Initiatives and Programming: retention focused collegiate success and resiliency programming (including social adjustment to college, empowerment strategies, well-being, academic well-being and - skill development, graduate school preparation, campus and community connections, and academic belonging.
  
• Serves as an Intake officer/investigator and advisor/person of support for the College regarding student complaints of unlawful harassment, discrimination, and sexual misconduct.
  

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's Degree, Master's preferred in College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Cultural Studies, Social Work, Counseling or related field.
  
• 1-2 years experience in student affairs position(s), including experience working effectively with multicultural and underrepresented student populations, including racial minority students, in support of their academic and social success.
  
• A commitment to a diverse community that fosters intercultural learning.
  
• A contemporary understanding of program planning, evaluation, and marketing.
  
• Ability to advise students, individually and in groups.
  
• Strong interpersonal, organizational and conflict management skills.
  
• Understanding of and/or experience in a residential, liberal arts college environment.
  
• Willingness to work flexible hours and evenings/weekends as needed.
  
• Able to execute independent thought yet work collaboratively; strong problem-solving and facilitation skills; and possess computer skills (word processing and database management).
  
• Employ exceptional interpersonal skills and exercise a high degree of diplomacy and discretion.
  
• Possess excellent presentation skills and communication skills.
  

Please note that in an effort to keep the CCA community safe, the College requires all staff, faculty, and students who are on campus to be fully vaccinated, including to have received a booster shot (if eligible). The job responsibilities of this position will require time regularly spent on campus, and therefore the incumbent will be asked to follow the CCA vaccination requirement, unless an exemption is approved. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

• The range for the position is $25.64 - $28.20 per hour.
  
• CCA offers a comprehensive benefits package, including the choice of five medical plans, generous holiday, sick & vacation time, a retirement match and tuition remission. CCA covers an average of 91% of the medical plan cost for the employee only and an average of 82% for employees with dependents. WORK SCHEDULE:

• CCA considers a full-time work week to be 37.5 hours per week.
  
• Monday - Friday, 9am-5:30pm, with occasional night & weekend work
  

POSITION DETAILS:

• This position is covered under the staff union collective bargaining agreement and will be required to contribute to union dues/agency fees.
