The Department of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) at Stanford University supports and advances the teaching, learning and research activities at Stanford by promoting a safe and healthy campus environment. Under the Office of the Vice Provost and Dean of Research (VPDoR), we focus on practical safety and environmental solutions by working with our campus partners in a process of shared learning to support the mission and research of Stanford University. Comprised of over 10 technical groups with more than 50 specialists who work in the field with top researchers, faculty, staff, and students, the work environment is team-oriented, collaborative, deadline-driven, and vibrant.
As part of EH&S, the Environmental Protection Programs (EPP) group of provides services related to chemical, radioactive and biological waste management, disposal of legacy controlled substances, hazardous material spill prevention and response, air emission permits, surplus chemical exchange, and shipping of hazardous materials. In addition, the EPP group is tasked with managing a variety of environmental projects such as underground tank remediation, and soils remediation related to hazardous material spills.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The EPP group seeks a Hazardous Waste Technician who will handle and transport radiological and/or chemical/universal hazardous waste, respond on an as-needed basis to hazardous material spills, and perform critical customer service duties. In this role, you will be a bargaining unit/union member of the SEIU Higher Education Workers Local 2007. Working under minimal supervision, your customer service duties will include assistance with waste management requirements, pickup and delivery of EH&S-related equipment and supplies, and assistance for researchers and staff to obtain waste packaging supplies and materials. All EH&S staff are required to comply with governmental regulations and University and departmental policies and procedures regarding health and safety and must observe and support good health and safety practices. Additionally, all staff are required to provide EH&S support as assigned during emergencies. Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor, the EPP manager, or by EH&S management.
