Stanford University, one of the world's premier academic and research institutions, is forming its first new school in 70 years to address global climate and sustainability challenges. The Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability will focus on a unifying goal of creating a future in which humans and nature thrive together in concert and in perpetuity. Faculty, students, and staff will advance this goal through a structure composed of academic departments; institutes, including the Woods Institute for the Environment and the Precourt Institute for Energy; and a Sustainability Accelerator, which will be focused on externalizing policy and technology solutions at scale. Three primary pathways to impact will guide the units who are joining forces in the new school:

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Associate Director, Communications, the Communications Associate is responsible for supporting communications activities that advance the Stanford Woods Institute's goals for linking solutions-oriented environmental research to action. The Communications Associate is primarily responsible for tracking, curating, and reporting Stanford's environmental research publications and news media engagement; marketing our events and ensuring Stanford environmental research, experts and events are promoted on our digital channels (web and social). This position will be hired through the Woods Institute for the Environment and will support its core activities while collaborating with the broader community of staff working to advance the new school's launch and goals.

CORE DUTIES:

• Track and curate environment and sustainability research publications produced by Stanford faculty; assist the Communications Manager in reporting out publications via social media, our annual Research Year in Review, and other channels
• Track and report out social media, web and newsletter metrics reflecting impact of comms activities
• Track and report on Stanford experts quoted in news outlets about environment and sustainability issues
• Ensure media lists are current and targeted to specific news topics
• Provide logistics support for media interviews
• Produce and post content (via CMS) for applicable university/unit websites
• Support event marketing efforts, including timely creation and posting/dissemination of invitations and event announcements
• Manage contact lists and distribute blast newsletter/email communications using tools like Mailchimp, Salesforce, FormAssembly and/or Marketo
