JOB SUMMARY

The Benz lab at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging is looking for a Research Associate to provide technical assistance, working both semi-independently and closely with other Benz lab scientists, on new translational cancer research projects as well as interdisciplinary geroscience studies linking cancer with age-related cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases. This individual will be asked to perform a variety of cutting edge molecular-cellular experimental techniques on established human cell lines as well as a limited number of new and specialized imaging procedures that meet the needs of ongoing research projects. Based on project findings, there will be the opportunity to co-author a new research publication.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work on problems of moderate scope in which analysis of situation or data requires a review of identifiable factors.
• Accomplish a variety of technical applications that are semi-routine in nature.
• Apply job skills and established policies and procedures to perform various technical tasks and support operations.
• Exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices.
• Under general supervision, ensure timely and accurate performance of responsibilities for multiple projects or a single functional area.
• Prioritize daily activities to complete tasks and projects assigned by others.

QUALIFICATIONS

• BA/BS or MS/MA in Biology or related field, with strong interest in pursuing clinically relevant biological science research
• 2-5 years lab experience preferred, including background in basic molecular/cellular techniques
• Independent and creative problem solver with attention to detail and accuracy
