COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

• Competitive salary ($55 to 70 /hour) commensurate with experience
• 10 - 15 hours per week over 2-3 days; onsite position

POSITION SUMMARY

The Buck Institute is getting ready to run its first clinical research studies to investigate the effects of food on aging in older adults. We are looking for an organized and motivated nurse to join our team and oversee the study visits to the Buck. The Clinical Research Nurse is primarily responsible for the accurate completion of visit procedures and collection of information from study patients according to protocols, and for protecting the health, safety, and welfare of research participants. Specific examples include study questionnaires, venous cannulation and blood draws, and light exercise testing. The Clinical Research Nurse may supervise , Research Associateswith the entire team working under the guidance and supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI) to ensure that the integrity and quality of clinical trials are maintained and conducted in accordance w/ federal, state, and local regulations, Institutional Review Board (IRB) approvals, and Buck policies and procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensures compliance with the study’s protocol by providing thorough review and documentation at each subject study visit.
• Participates in selection of study participants by interviewing and documenting medical history to determine compliance with eligibility requirements.
• Obtains initial and ensures continued consent from participants to take part in the research study.
• Provides medical oversight during study test visits (up to 3 per week, each lasting 5h).
• Performs medical procedures including collecting vital signs, insertion of an intravenous cannula and collection of blood samples from research participants during test visits.
• Work with Clinical Research Associate to execute physical and cognitive testing during study visits.
• Answers patients' questions about the study during test visits.
• Communicates regularly with the principal investigator about study-related issues.
• Helps researchers with data collection by working with other members of the research team such as statisticians, lab technicians, and physicians.
• Maintains confidentiality of all patient-related records including written and verbal communications.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

• Valid RN license from the State of California
• Minimum of a diploma from an accredited nursing school required; Bachelor of Nursing or other Science degree preferred
• Clinical nursing research experience in a hospital, clinic or similar health care setting prefered but not required if the candidate has sufficient interest in learning about clinical research.
• Current Basic Life Support training will be required (can be provided after hire)
• Nursing competency skills per scope of practice (i.e., performing vital signs, nursing assessments, intravenous cannula insertion, etc.)
• Clinical knowledge and assessment skills appropriate to licensure

• Must have professional demeanor, strong communication skills with the public as well as with other providers and co-workers
• Ability to work well independently as well as in team environment
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills are critical
• Must be literate in basic IT systems (email, Microsoft Office Word and Excel), or have a willingness to learn and demonstrate proficiency within six months of hire
• Possess the ability to work well under pressure, multi-task, and manage deadlines
• Knowledge of GCP, clinical trials, federal, state, and local regulations, including HIPAA policies and procedures prefered but not required if the candidate has a willingness to learn.
