The School of Humanities and Sciences (H&S) is the foundation of a liberal arts education at Stanford. The school encompasses 23 departments and 25 interdisciplinary programs. H&S is home to fundamental and applied research, where free, open, and critical inquiry is pursued across disciplines. As the university's largest school, H&S serves as the foundation of a Stanford undergraduate education no matter which discipline students pursue as a major. JOB PURPOSE:

The Sociology Department and Urban Studies Program at Stanford is seeking a Student Services Specialist to provide operational and administrative support for the undergraduate programs. Working closely with the Directors of both units, this position is the key point of contact providing general program support and advising to students.

The Student Services Specialist frequently liaises with other campus units, especially the Registrar's office. They are expected to become well-versed in relevant university guidelines and policies and to resolve routine issues with a degree of independence. The Student Services Specialist will report to the Student Services Manager. The Student Services Specialist role requires organization and follow-through, to provide students, faculty, and staff with the highest degree of support.

CORE DUTIES:

• Track student progress toward degree requirements; discuss progress with students and respond to routine questions about their academic plans.
• Respond to routine inquiries from students, faculty, external constituents, and staff in a timely and professional manner.
• Research and resolve routine issues; refer complex issues to appropriate staff members.
• Input data; update electronic databases, websites, literature, and associated materials; and occasionally participate in the implementation and testing of new technology.
• Collect and analyze data from multiple sources including student feedback, surveys, trend reports, and data analytics. Prepare and summarize reports and make recommendations to enhance offerings (e.g., programs and courses) and to influence current processes and policies.
• Review documents and forms for completeness, track files for follow up and distribute for review.
• Coordinate with faculty regarding course scheduling and other aspects of academic offerings and prepare material for course bulletin.
• Manage logistics for outreach activities, meetings, and undergraduate program events.
• Serve as a subject matter resource to students and other departments.
• Apprise students of research, fellowship and scholarship opportunities. Participate in related student recruitment and selection.
• Contribute to general office administration and process improvements.
• Train and direct day-to-day activities of student and temporary workers.
