Internal Number: 3196899 ![]() BEH HEALTH COUNSELOR 3 (Counselor) Department Description Department Purpose Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) provides primary care, mental health, acute care, laboratory, pharmacy, optometry, health education and counseling services to registered UC Davis students. SHCS serves approximately 300 patients per day during the school year. The mission is to provide campus health and wellness resources that enable students to successfully achieve their academic goals and life-long wellness. SHCS has approximately 180 staff including managers, senior professionals, professional and support staff, student employees, interns and post doc residents. SHCS is accredited by AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care), IACS (International Association for Counseling Services), and APA (American Psychological Association). For more information on the department, see https://shcs.ucdavis.edu SHCS mental health staff are an educationally diverse group of licensed psychologists, psychiatrists, masters-level therapists, and predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees, dedicated to assisting students and enriching the university community by providing student-centered mental health services, advocacy, outreach, and consultation to promote psychological well-being and academic success. Counseling services are offered at no cost to registered students. The partner unit director or designee will participate with the CS Director of Multicultural Services in the recruitment and performance evaluation process for the Community Counselor assigned to their unit. Job Summary Under the direction of the Counseling Services (CS) Director of Multicultural Services, this position coordinates and develops partnerships with student service units to provide regular consultation and effective case management of student situations. This position works with UCD Student Housing & Dinning Services, Office of Student Development and provides the following services; Provide initial consultation evaluations, treatment planning, crisis intervention, case management, and individual and group counseling and psychotherapy, with referrals to others as needed. Conduct assessments, respond to student needs, and make referrals to campus resources. Conduct outreach to student residents, and student and career Housing staff about distressed and distressing students, multicultural concerns and other mental health and wellness issues. Provide consultation to students, faculty, and staff. Provide supervision and training to Counseling Services trainees in an APA accredited internship and APPIC-member postdoctoral program. Works as part of a multidisciplinary team. This position works closely with the CS Director of Multicultural Services, and staff of the Office of Student Development. Complies with professional requirements of SHCS and UC Davis policies and procedures as well as all State and Federal professional legal requirements.
