Internal Number: JPF04017 Ambulatory Site Director and Associate Medical Director for the Fine People's Clinic at ZSFG Contact: Jonathan Ballard Position description: The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF)'s Division of General Internal Medicine (DGIM) at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG) is seeking an inspirational clinician educator to join our faculty and assist with leading ambulatory residency training at the Richard Fine People's Clinic (RFPC, formerly known as the General Medicine Clinic). The candidate will be appointed as an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Medicine, in either the Health Science, Clinical Professor of Medicine, or In Residence series, depending on experience. This leadership role is expected to require 30% effort from a faculty member who maintains an active primary care practice and precepts residents in RFPC. Depending on the candidate's interests and preferences, appointments may range from 0.7 to 1.0 FTE. DGIM at ZSFG has approximately 30 faculty members who provide medical care at RFPC and on the inpatient wards of the hospital; teach UCSF medical students, residents, and fellows; conduct innovative health services research; and advocate for health policy to improve the care of vulnerable and underserved populations. RFPC is an academic primary care practice that cares for approximately 8,500 of the City's most medically and socially complex patients, delivering well over 30,000 visits per year. RFPC is also a major teaching site for UCSF Internal Medicine residents (categorical and primary care). Approximately half of all patient visits are done by faculty and nurse practitioners; the remainder are carried out by residents. RFPC is part of The San Francisco Health Network, the city's safety net health system that cares for ~110,000 patients annually in 14 primary care health centers throughout the city. ZSFG is a premier public hospital with a level 1 trauma center that also has a strong research enterprise. During the COVID-19, our RFPC team transformed the care we provide while holding true to our values of social justice and equity as documented in this video produced by the SFGH Foundation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=GRUeEgBz6Ng RFPC is a core ambulatory training site for the UCSF Internal Medicine Residency Program. Twenty-four primary care and approximately twenty categorical residents from the UCSF IM program have their continuity primary care clinic at The Richard Fine People's Clinic (RFPC) and rotate through all of UCSF's excellent teaching hospitals including San Francisco General, the UCSF Medical Center at Parnassus, and the San Francisco VA Medical Center. We are seeking a skilled clinician-educator with an outstanding track record of primary care teaching who has at least two years of experience in primary care and prior educational leadership experience. The position will include at least 40% time in clinic, seeing patients and precepting, and may include up to four one-week sessions serving as an attending on the Medicine Resident Inpatient Service at ZSFG. Applicants must be board-eligible or board-certified in Internal Medicine and be able to obtain an active California medical license. A commitment to providing high-quality care to the urban underserved is required. Experience working in a safety net setting and with vulnerable populations is desired. Prior clinical education experience is strongly preferred. The successful applicant will be a core member of our clinical management team in their role as Associate Medical Director for Resident Education. Further, they will work closely with the leadership of the UCSF Internal Medicine Residency Program and the San Francisco Primary Care (SFPC) track of the IM residency program. The Site Director will oversee and update the RFPC-based ambulatory curriculum to train outstanding leaders in primary care and outpatient medicine who are committed to meeting the needs of patients and populations that have historically been underserved. Responsibilities may fall under four main categories: curriculum design and delivery, resident mentorship, faculty preceptor oversight, and management of clinical operations and resident clinic scheduling to optimize trainee and patient experiences. Working collaboratively with the UCSF Residency program director, the SFPC program director and RFPC clinic leadership is essential, as well as bringing a sense of positive energy while improving the resident experience through your own assessment of its strengths and weakness. This faculty member will be expected to meet with clinic and residency leaders regularly, and to support collaboration, and scholarly contributions.
