Internal Number: 95172 This is a 2-year fixed term position working full-time onsite. Stanford Libraries is looking for an experienced staff supervisor, and a creative, energetic, flexible, engaged and organized individual for the Circulation Operations Manager role at the Cecil H. Green Library, Stanford's largest library.
The Libraries values are rooted in a commitment of mutual respect and the idea that every member of the staff has something to contribute, and that learning is constant. We seek a team member who is ready to share their skills and perspectives and collaborate with colleagues across the organization.
About Stanford Libraries: Stanford Libraries is a network of over 15 libraries with 400+ employees. We are committed to fueling teaching, learning, and research across Stanford by acquiring, stewarding and making available our robust collection of more than 12 million items. About the Access Services Department: The Access Services Department's work centers around inventory control and customer services. The units of our department include: Circulation & Course Reserves, Library Privileges & Visitor Experience, Stacks & Collection Maintenance, Resource Sharing & Digital Delivery, and Media Center operations. With an eye of overall system-wide impacts, our department teams lead by example and stay closely coordinated with other branch libraries.
About This Position: The Circulation Manager oversees the overall operations of the circulation desk at Green Library. These customer services include: circulation, print and electronic reserves, interlibrary loan, stacks maintenance and limited reference. This position also oversees services to remote users via email and phone. The Circulation Manager directly supervises four full-time library circulation specialists who perform routine circulation functions such as checking in and checking out books, processing user holds, and interacting with users. These specialists also perform back-office material processing activities for circulation and other library units. The Circulation Manager has regular involvement in the core activities of other teams including: Resource Sharing & Digital Delivery, Stacks, Media Center and Library Privileges because workflows stretch across these teams and the service desk is a hub for these related services.
The Circulation Manager is part of the Access Services supervisors group. Under the direction of the Circulation Librarian (Sr. Assistant Head of Access Services), the Circulation Manager will be a key stakeholder in the library's newest project to migrate to an open-source library database (FOLIO) in the next 1-2 years. For this project, the Circulation Manager will help test and train staff in workflow, create documentation and problem-solve. Additionally, the Circulation Manager will participate in the library-wide Operations Managers group and serve on the Circulation Help team addressing library-wide circulation policies and procedures.
We are looking for a Circulation Manager who values team-building, workflow efficiency, and service design. As we modernize services to include more automation and self-service for our customers, we will seek an Operations Manager interested in investigating new tools and fostering teamwork to implement change.
