PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:The Computer Science (CS) program of CSUMB (California State University, Monterey Bay) is conducting software development projects with external sponsorship. The main goal of one of the current projects is to develop software tools to measure network bandwidth and performance for Android devices, iOS devices, and desktop computers (Windows and OS X). These software tools are based on open-source applications such as iPerf, NDT, and ping. POSITION SUMMARY: The Software Engineer position, under the general direction of the Project Director and in collaboration with other staff, is responsible for the development of software applications for the project described above (including writing code, testing and maintaining software systems). RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential Functions (including but not limited to):
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to verbally communicate to exchange information, and to occasionally travel to other offices or locations to attend meetings or to pick up or deliver materials. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience:Equivalent to a Bachelors degree preferably in Computer Science or any related field AND Two (2) years of progressively responsible work experience in program design, implementation, testing, and managing innovative projects and/or a Masters degree in any related field is strongly preferred. Advanced degree may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience. Specialized Skills: Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with a Masters degree in a related field are encouraged to apply. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the CSUMB Vision Statement and the core values of mutual respect, collaboration and service orientation, multiculturalism and diversity, community service and institutional excellence. Experience working with a diverse and multicultural population and performing community services; demonstrated technical literacy. Special Conditions of Employment: Ability to work some evenings and weekends as needed to support student study/work sessions. Ability to complete and pass training in Defensive Driving. Must continue to meet the established driving standards as a condition of employment. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring departments fiscal resources. Classification: Grade 5. The monthly hiring range for this position is $6,150-$7,000. This is an exempt position and as such is not eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
