Stanford University, located in the heart of Silicon Valley, is one of the world's leading teaching and research universities. Since it's opening in 1891, Stanford has been dedicated to finding solutions to big challenges and to prepare students for leadership in a complex world. A laboratory in the Institute for Immunity, Transplantation and Infection (ITI) is seeking a highly motivated Life Science Research Professional 1 (LSRP 1) to join our team. ITI is an interdisciplinary institute and the overall goal of the lab's research is to understand how the innate immune system regulates adaptive immune responses to pathogens and harness this knowledge in the design of vaccines and therapeutics. Towards this end, we are using an integrative systems biological approach that use high throughput assays (transcriptomics, micro RNA expression, metabolomics) combined with computational approaches. The LSRP 1 primary duty will be to perform DNA digests, genotyping using PCR, analysis via gel electrophoresis and visualization, compiling results and uploading to an on-line database system for a 70+ strain mouse colony and assist with mouse colony maintenance. The LSRP will also work with research personnel and will use a variety of knockout and transgenic mice to perform research experiments using molecular biology techniques which include PCR, genotyping, cloning, DNA extraction; biochemical assays, animal surgeries, cell culture techniques, histology, immunochemistry in animals. The goal of the work will be to further understand how the immune system works and to help develop the best approach to vaccine development. The LSRP will be expected to troubleshoot existing protocols and develop novel protocols and procedures as well as provide technical and scientific advice to other research personnel in lab.
